The second 40' truckload of heavy duty tarp material and accessories for fabricating tents, left Port Mercy today to be loaded aboard a ship on Friday, bound for Lima, Peru.

UPDATE:  Thursday, September 06, 2007
Loading the vinyl on to the truck for PERU...

The second 40' truckload of heavy duty tarp material and accessories for fabricating tents, left Port Mercy today to be loaded aboard a ship on Friday, bound for Lima, Peru. There it will be received by a missionary team with the Southern Baptist International Missions Board who will utilize this great commodity to provide shelter for hundreds of people.

Thank you for your prayers and support, helping us to send this aid!  Please remember to pray for the victims of this terrible earthquake.  We will keep you updated as we receive reports and determine what future steps Friend Ships may be able to take to ease their suffering and demonstrate the love of Jesus.

A huge thanks goes to CSAV shipping for their generous donation of the transportation of these items to Peru and to Seaman's Corporation for their ongoing support of Friend Ships disaster relief operations.

A container of vinyl for Peru...

The first shipment left Port Mercy today for earthquake victims in Peru.  A 40' shipping container full of heavy duty tarp material for roofing and tents was delivered to the Port of Houston for shipment out of the country on Saturday.  On Thursday, a second 40' container of tarp will also leave Port Mercy and be delivered to the Port of Houston. Peru couple staning in front of damaged building...

Peru buildings and structions left in rubble after the recent earthquake...

Last week we received permission from CSAV Shipping Lines to send 40 tons of tarp to Peru free of charge.  We will receive the containers at Port Mercy and they will be returned to the port and shipped out on September 8th!

We are still in need of a heavy duty commercial sewing machine for the shipment.

Listen to Pastor David Jessen of the Peru Dream Center with a first hand and exclusive report from Peru on the devastation from the August 15th earthquake measured at 8.0 on the Richter scale.  Aired on Radio Friend Ships Aug 27, 2007.

 HELPING PERU!

The recent 8.0 earthquake did major damage to the area south of Peru.  Hundreds of deaths and injuries have been reported.  Up to 80% of the homes and buildings are damaged.  Thousands of people are reported sleeping in the streets.

We will start with an urgent need of sending shipping containers of heavy duty tarp material for shelters.  With people helping to support this response we can send tons of this material and some personnel to assist training church volunteers how to fabricate it.

Help send Vinyl tarp material to help the people of Peru...We have truckloads of this very expensive material on hand already here at Port Mercy.  We need help with the cost of shipping the containers, purchasing welding machines to fabricate the material (sears the fabric together) and for traveling expenses for our Disaster Relief Team to train the local people.

YOUR DONATION MAKES A DIFFERENCE:  If you would like to support this outreach, make a financial gift and indicate that you would like your gift to be designated for “Earthquake Peru Relief” click here to make a contribution.

We will post more information and updates on the progress of sending containers as soon as possible.
