Friend Ships
In Israel

November 2003, "Spirit of Grace" departed for Israel. After 23 months in the making, the ship sailed with a wonderful crew of 37 people and 2,000 tons of fantastic goods to be distributed to needy families. Here is a partial list of goods that were transported for the mission to Israel: Corn, Beans, Wheat, Dried Fruit, Crackers, Pasta, Dried Potatoes, Baby Food, Soup Mix, Tomato Products, Dry Milk, Water Purifiers, Gauze, Baby Incubators, Reading Glasses, Crutches, Disposable Gloves, Dental Equipment, New and Used Clothing, Bullet Proof Glass, Industrial Glass, Vinyl Coated Fabric (Industrial Tarp Material), Paint, Doors, Toys, School Supplies, Blankets, Dishes, Mattresses, Linens, Paper Products, Shampoo, Soap, Toothbrushes and hundreds of other needed items. Supplies are being utilized to assist recent immigrants to Israel and help other families and individuals in need. Many children are without their daily essential provisions. Because of continual terrorism in Israel, the tourism industry is severely depressed. This effect brings a domino effect on many other industries in the nation and has created a temporary, but critical, situation with the Israeli economy. It is a huge blessing to be able to help a friend in need!

Check out some reports from the crew - Israel Mission:
The Condron Family (Virginia) Wayne & Nancy Elliot (Oklahoma)

Christmas Eve 2003 after 54 days at sea, the great ship "Spirit of Grace" and her mighty crew arrived in Israel and docked in the port of Ashdod. In spite of many major obstacles that had to be overcome, the people of Israel opened their hearts and the great nation of Israel opened her gates to our mission. Although the government had no law in place which allowed them to waive customs and port fees for such a gift of love, their head offices committed to finding a way to receive the supplies without our organization having to pay customs or any other fees. God made a way where there was no way and broke through bars of iron! Thanks to the Prime Minister's office and the Ministries of Finance, Transportation, Tourism, Welfare and Defense, that way was established. The "Spirit of Grace" arrived as the guest of the government. The officials of the Port of Ashdod hosted us with overwhelming love. On Christmas day, we were served a scrumptious dinner by the port and honored for what we were doing for the nation. They sent us gifts of fresh Israeli produce, filled our tanks with fresh Israeli water, hired a tour bus to take us to the historic city of Joffa and even gave us a festive New Years Eve Party aboard ship. Our first class custom and ship's agents worked without charge and took care of every need. Also, provided without charge for the "Spirit of Grace" were Tugboats, pilots, moorage, warehousing and stevedores to offload the ship so our crew did not have to do this work. We discharged our precious supplies, which are being distributed to people in need throughout the nation. Our wonderful crew, who have invested two years of their lives into this mission, had very special private tours of many of the historic sites of Israel. "Israel Relief Fund" and "The Joseph Project", two organizations with whom we joint-ventured on this mission, treated the crew to these tours and our great guide made them extraordinary.

THE TIME TO PROVIDE HELP TO ISRAEL IS NOW and FRIEND SHIPS is once again preparing for this exciting and unique journey.  Goods are delivered to Israel and then distributed by a broad range of organizations. Much of the food, clothing and household supplies help people who have returned to their Jewish homeland from around the world.  We are assisting people from Russia, Morocco, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Ethiopia and many other countries as they start a new life in Israel. “For I will take you out of the nations; I will gather you back from all the countries and bring you back into your own land” Ezekiel 36: 24

Friend Ships
In Africa

In three voyages with the good ship, Spirit, Friend Ships provided more than 10,000 freight tons of aid to:
Sharing the love of Jesus with Africa.

Angola, where the receiving network of churches in this communist country were given great cooperation and support from the government to birth new churches. Many new churches were planted and the Lord's love was evident to all, as local Christians were able to reach out and meet the needs of people in such critical circumstances. This nation was so desperate for supplies that ships were a favorite criminal target with commercial vessels regularly lost 1/3 of their goods to theft and the Captain of the vessel on the dock in front of "Spirit" was murdered as the ship was ravaged by thieves. Conditions were so rough off-loading the ship, that a job which could have been accomplished in just a few days under more favorable conditions, took three months to complete. Still, the victories made it all worth while!

Liberia, during a time of fierce civil war. As the deck crew were discharging supplies, they often had to protect their heads with trash cans lids to shield themselves from random stray bullets raining down on deck. At night, the ship blacked out all lights as a precaution. The church and community were so very grateful for our willingness to brave these circumstances in order to help them. Christians were thrilled to receive hundreds of tons of relief supplies that could be used to help the orphans, the widows and those most in need.

A Bible College in Islamic Gambia that was reaching out to those in need.

Ghana, for the support of programs assisting a great number of refugees from other African nations.

Sierra Leone, for a humanitarian outreach by Bible college students.

Through several container shipments aboard commercial ships, Friend Ships supplied tons of goods to Uganda, in support of a children's outreach program, and to Mozambique, to supply a large orphanage.

Friend Ships
In Central America
and the Caribbean

Friend Ships efforts have often focused on the people of Central America. In past missions to four nations, thousands of tons of life sustaining aid has been provided:

Arriving in Nicaragua just weeks after its return to democracy, Friend Ships provided food, school equipment/supplies, building materials, medical aid and clothing by the truckloads. Just outside of Managua, a group of orphans fasted and prayed for one day each week for the ship's arrival. Their prayers paved the way and when Friend Ship "Spirit" arrived at Puerto Corinto, all was in place for a successful mission! Supplies were received by the orphans and the church organization that founded and operated the orphanage. They distributed the goods throughout the country. Some of the food, delivered by Spirit, was used to sustain government workers and their families when the new and struggling administration had no money to pay their salaries. Many people, at first skeptical and frightened of a ship that came from North America which had been known as "the enemy" for the past ten years of communism, came to praise God for the food, the supplies, the smiles and the fellowship they experienced from the crew of the good ship, Spirit.

On a second voyage to Nicaragua, Spirit delivered a complete, ready-to- erect orphanage for the East Coast where orphans were living in a building which was on the verge of collapsing. The orphanage was moved from the West Coast port to Managua by truck but because bandits were on the highway from Managua to the East Coast, shooting at all passing trucks and killing the drivers, Friend Ships arranged for a C130 aircraft to fly several missions (above the bandits' heads) to deliver the entire orphanage, along with tons of food!

Emergency supplies were provided to the Nicaraguans via commercial ship lines and on a U.S. Government C5 cargo plane in response to the damage created by two tsunami's and a volcanic eruption.

In 1994, the country of Honduras requested our help and received food, medical supplies and clothing for distribution to the very poor. Then in 1997, Friend Ships obtained land to begin establishing a large scale development program on the island of Roatan, Honduras in the Bay Islands. Click here for detailed information about this program on the "Friend Ships Village" web page.

El Salvador opened its doors and waived all fees to receive a shipment of food and medical supplies during its time of heavy internal conflict.

Food and clothing were delivered to Guatemala on two voyages and container shipments, in addition to equipment and supplies to establish a full service hospital, providing care for the poor.

Immediately following the treacherous "Hurricane Mitch" that killed thousands of people and ravaged Central America, Friend Ships delivered two 5000 ton shiploads full of food, water, clothing and medical supplies to Honduras and Guatemala. Many of these goods were delivered by Friend Ships into the hard-to-reach areas of the Bay Islands and La Mosquitia, through use of a large shallow draft workboat. Supplies were also delivered to key organizations in Puerto Cortez, San Pedro Sula and Guatemala City who were distributing goods to hundreds of other organizations, throughout Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala, which were helping those in need. During the uncertain days in the aftermath of Hurricane Mitch, people were so thankful to God for receiving a helping hand in their critical time of need.

Honduras Medical Mission 2004.  On May 29th, the incredible ship God has given us to use for medical missions, MV HOPE slipped quietly into the crystal blue waters of the Caribbean.  We are so grateful to God for the use of this ship that has made possible the spiritual voyage we are about to tell you. As the ship parted the waters of the deep southern seas, the songs of praise and singing of joy could be heard.  She carried tents, medical equipment, medicine, fuel, a mobile kitchen, a truck, a bus and a full crew with strong and willing hearts. We had Swedish and Cajun cooks, a capable captain and engineers, medical personnel and ship crew's from many nations.  The ship made her way to the Caribbean Island of Roatán and began her mobile medical missions and leadership training.  To read more about this mission please (click here)

In the Caribbean Friend Ships has delivered thousands of tons of food, medical supplies and clothing to:

Haiti Mission 2005 Report (click here).

Haiti, when the Spirit Ship arrived in Port au Prince in September 1994, on the same day that the U.S. fleet (without advance notice) arrived to help the Haitians remove a hated dictator. The days of fear and uncertainty for the Haitian people as the government changed hands made this an especially critical time to bring aid. U.S. soldiers enjoyed the hospitality of our ship's crew, attending church services aboard Spirit and exchanging fellowship with the crew.

The Caribbean Islands of Antigua, St. Kitts/Nevis, and St. Lucia, when a season of four deadly hurricanes devastated the islands. The port of St. Lucia was added to the itinerary after the ship was loaded and just as she was about to sail because of severe damage to the island's hospital. Several truckloads of supplies were designated for St. Lucia, at this late date, primarily chosen according to what supplies would be accessible at that point of the voyage. Amazingly, every item needed at the hospital was found within those designated pallets!

Jamaica, where supplies were distributed to the poor through more than 200 local churches.

Read about God's love for Nicaragua in the Jesus & Company Book

Whether we send supplies by ship, plane, car, suitcase or container, all the supplies help people, and all the glory goes to God!

Friend Ships
In the Middle East

Friend Ships delivered tons of top quality food, medical supplies and educational equipment to:

The Gaza, in coordination with Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN), while they negotiated a television station in that region.

  Medical outreaches in Lebanon.

Iraq,  to a school that was reaching out to the handicapped.

Fact:  One pallet is typically 4 feet long, 3.5 feet wide, and  5 feet tall or more! That's at least 70 cubic feet.

In January of 2004, "Spirit of Grace" delivered tons of humanitarian aid to Israel (click here for details).

June 2005, "Spirit of Grace" is currently loading for another voyage to Israel (click here) to find out more about this voyage.

Friend Ships
In North America

Programs to date have distributed:

During the 2005 Hurricane Season Friend Ships responded to three major Hurricanes.  Read about these past hurricane reports: Hurricane Katrina/Rita in New Orleans vicinity, Hurricane Rita - Lake Charles, and Hurricane Wilma - South Florida.

Over 55 million pounds of food within the United StatesBeautiful bins of oranges given to the hungry. collected through our "Storehouse One" program and distributed through local churches.

Ongoing medical, food and clothing outreaches to Mexico.

Food, supplies and labor for emergency response to hurricane, earthquakes and civil unrest.

Friend Ships also stands ready to help with natural disasters in North America. After Hurricane Andrew devastated Dade county, Florida, the Spirit ship pulled into port and our crew worked, side-by-side with the community, to help rebuild homes and lives. When a hurricane ravaged Hawaii, water supplies were cut. Friend Ships responded with shipments of bottled water. When civil unrest tore through the city of Los Angeles, stores and food programs were burned out or shut down. Friend Ships brought food to police and firemen who were restoring order and tons of supplies to churches, in the most affected areas, who were responding to those in need.

Friend Ships
I
n Former U.S.S.R.
and Russia

In a voyage on Friend Ship Spirit in August of 1991, thousands of tons of medical supplies, food, clothing and Bibles were delivered to:

The former U.S.S.R. The ship arrived in the port of Riga, Latvia, just six hours before the coup d'etat erupted that toppledSoldiers flood the streets of Latvia during the Coup! the Soviet Union. For three long days, the people were terrified by the threat of hard line communism descending on them once again, and they were so very grateful to God for the physical and spiritual aid delivered by our ship "Spirit". His hand upon the timing of our arrival was evident to all. The crew were present for the re-birth of an independent Latvia, witnessed the removal of the statue of Lenin in the City Square, and traveled to Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) to take part in one of the first evangelistic crusades in Russia. Supplies were distributed to many regions including Kiev, Moscow, Leningrad, throughout the Baltic States and to Chernobyl, where food, free of contaminants, was rare.

Air Cargo:

A giant Russian Antonov 124 cargo plane, that had flown to the U.S. to deliver the Russian sailboat entry in the America's Cup race, was filled with food and returned to Russia with love on the very day of that nation's independence.

Container Shipments:

Thousands of additional tons of supplies were shipped by container and delivered to Christian outreaches in Moscow and St. Petersburg. In St. Petersburg, government officials "borrowed" food from the church recipients to help railroad workers and their families whom they had been unable to pay for weeks.

Supplies are shipped to Armenia on an ongoing basis to support people undergoing severe persecution.

Food and other supplies were shipped to Estonia, to support a Bible College and humanitarian outreach.

In a country that had been isolated from religious freedom during the communist rule, thousands of people hungry for God came to know Jesus through the hands-on love of the Lord.

Read about how crew member, Colleen, describes her time in Russia as "missionary heaven."

Friend Ships
In Europe

Friend Ships delivered tons of critical life support, food and other items in three voyages with the good ship, Spirit, to:People reading about God.

Croatian/Bosnian. Aid for refugees was delivered during the height of the war. Upon approach to Croatia, our ship was boarded by U.N. troops and searched for weapons. At times, the warehouses we filled were bombed to the ground. In spite of all obstacles, thousands of tons of aid were moved into the country to feed displaced men, women and children who were housed in refugee centers throughout the region.

Ladies happy to receive the blessings!  Albania, in three missions shortly after the fall of communism and at the time of devastating floods. Government officials told us of a village that had lost its only factory and the people were starving. They planned to attempt a coup d'etat in desperation. Supplies delivered by Spirit were used to help this village and the violence was averted! During their 40 years of extreme hard line communism, Albanians had not been allowed to own private vehicles. Hence, many regions had no useable roads for transportation of food. Helicopters were used to deliver aid packages and Bibles into even the most remote villages.

Read about how one crew member, Omar, remembers his trip to Albania. "A few of us traveled to the highlands to deliver food. The hunger of the people struck my heart. They were so open to the Gospel and that's when I realized that my work moved the Kingdom forward."
